Host Vidarbha beat Odisha by 10 wickets on the penultimate day of their four-day Cooch Behar Trophy U-19 Group-C match at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur today. Needing just two runs for victory, the home team accomplished the feat with opener Kshitiz Dahiya hitting a four in the second over.
Trailing by 271 runs in the first innings, Odisha were all out for 272 in the second essay despite a half-century by opener Swastik Samal and useful contributions by Akash Nayak, Binit Mohanty, Raghunath Malla, Mrutyanjaya Sharma and captain Satyajit Sabat. P Rekhade played instrumental role in the Vidarbha win, bagging five wickets in the second innings and nine in the match.
The emphatic win fetched Vidarbha seven points, while Odisha drew blank. This was the fourth defeat for Odisha and they finished fifth in the seven-team group, garnering eight points from six games. Baroda topped the group with 28 points, while Punjab ended second with 27 points.
Earlier in reply to a small first-innings total of 125 by Odisha, host Vidarbha were all out for 396. Among leading run-getters of the home team, Y Kadam hit a century (119), while D Nalkande (53), A Wakode (52) and P Parnate (52) contributed a half-century each. Pacer Preet Kanwar Singh Chohan was most successful bowler for Odisha, bagging five wickets for 123 runs.
Put into bat, Odisha innings disintegrated after a decent start. Raghunath Malla was the top scorer for Odisha with a 173-ball 49. His opening partner Swastik Samal contributed a 48-ball 33. Binit Mohanty was only other Odisha batsman to reach double digits. P Rekhade was most successful bowler for Vidarbha with four wickets for 18 runs.
